At Dublin School of Music, our greatest strength is our team of highly skilled and dedicated tutors. They are professional musicians who have devoted their lives to music and to the teaching of their students. To support both our students and our tutors, we have established the following cancellation policy.
When you book a lesson time, that slot is reserved for you each week. Your tutor cannot offer it to another student. As teaching is their livelihood, this time is part of their contracted work.
For this reason, lessons are charged as normal whether you attend or not. However, when you use a "make-up credit" to book another lesson, that make-up lesson will not be charged a second time.
We understand that life does not always run to schedule. Illnesses and unexpected events can arise with little or no warning, and we want to support our students through those situations.
To provide flexibility, we have introduced a make-up lesson policy using the MyMusicStaff student portal:
Each student may access up to three "make-up lesson credits" per instrument, per school year.
If you cannot attend your lesson, please cancel it yourself through the calendar in your MyMusicStaff student portal.
The system will automatically issue you a make-up credit.
You can then use that credit to book another available lesson time with your tutor.
Unused credits expire at the end of the school year and are not transferable.
This system offers meaningful flexibility — three credits per year is close to one-tenth of all scheduled lessons — while ensuring tutors are paid fairly for the time they dedicate to you. To make it work smoothly, please cancel lessons as early as possible if you cannot attend, so that your tutor’s time can be released for another student to use.
In the rare event that a tutor must cancel a class due to illness, personal emergency, or professional performance, Dublin School of Music will make every effort to arrange a suitable substitute teacher.
If this is not possible, the lesson will be rescheduled before the term ends.
If a mutually agreeable time cannot be found, a full refund for that class will be provided at the end of the term.
Please note: an agreed rescheduled class missed by the student will be considered as having taken place and will not be rescheduled or credited.
Timely payment of fees is essential for the smooth operation of our school. Failure to pay fees as agreed upon will result in suspension of classes until the balance has been paid. We regret that we cannot accommodate weekly payments.
The make-up lesson system is self-administered through your student portal. The school office cannot apply credits or make cancellations on your behalf.
If you experience something truly exceptional that requires more than the three allotted make-up credits, please contact us directly — we will always do our best to help.
For any issues regarding cancellations or scheduling, please discuss them with the school administration rather than your tutor.
This policy recognises the professionalism and livelihood of your tutors, supports students with flexibility for unexpected events, and protects the financial stability of the school so that we can continue to grow and develop for years to come.
