Leaving Certificate Music Technology Crash Course

Introduction:

This Leaving Cert Music Technology Crash Course is designed to equip Higher Level music students with the essential knowledge and skills to confidently approach the 25% Music Technology elective in their exams.

Duration: This is a three-day intensive course. There will be two sessions offered:

    • 10th-12th of July
    • 7th-9th of August
    • Sessions will run from 1pm-2.30 pm daily.

Course Objectives:

    • Understand the role and function of Music Technology in contemporary music creation.
    • Gain practical experience with music software for score input, editing, and playback.
    • Develop the ability to describe, plan, and execute edits into a four-part musical score.
    • Become familiar with the Leaving Cert Music Technology exam format and marking scheme.
    • Develop strategies for effectively completing the Music Technology core activity within the allocated exam time.

Course Content:

    • Introduction to music notation software (Musescore).
    • Score input: Entering notes, rests, clefs, time signatures, articulation, dynamics, etc.
    • Editing techniques: transposition, tempo adjustment, etc.
    • Exam Techniques: Analyzing the question, using clear terminology, time management strategies.
    • Practical exercises for applying the learned skills to sample scores.
